Classical music

Classical music evolved from the 11th century to present times but became widely spread between 1550 and 1900, also known as 'the common practice period'. The term classical music is used to describe a variety of Western musical styles from the 9th century to the present. The classical period in music is a specific time from 1750 to 1825, in which classism became popular in European arts.

Europe being the cradle of classical music, distinguished from other parts in the world by 'staff notation', a system used by Western composers to prescribe:
• Pitch
• Speed
• Meter
• Individual rhythms
• Exact execution of music

Non-European composers leave more room for improvisation.

Bach to Beethoven

The name 'Classical music' is used to categorize the period from Johann Sebastian Bach to Beethoven as a golden age in music. Western classical music started as Christian church music with many Ancient Greek influences such as the aulos and the lyre. Later on the music form evolved into a classical orchestra with instruments we know today.
