Got the blues.

The term 'the blues' refers to the 'blue devils': melancholy and sadness. It was first used in play 'Blue Devils' by George Colman in 1798. But it became a widely used expression since 1912 when the Hart Wand's 'Dallas' Blues became the first copyrighted blues composition. In lyrics the phrase is often used to describe a depressed mood.
